As an artwork educator, Olga Ivashkevich has extensive been fascinated in observing how women
express themselves as a result of artwork.
When she arrived at the College of South Carolina in 2008 as a college member in
College of Visible Art and Style and design, she wished to go after her desire in girlhood reports,
anything she had labored on as aspect of her dissertation at the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign.
“I was intrigued to see how ladies make meaning about girlhood and about their identities
through spontaneous artwork-making outdoors of school” she says.
Her passions drew her to the Women’s and Gender Scientific studies system, and she now directs
the Women’s Effectively-Currently being Initiative, overseeing arts and digital media workshops for
adolescent girls in the Juvenile Arbitration System of Lexington County.
The workshops are portion of a diversion plan for middle and higher school girls who
are initially-time, nonviolent offenders. The goal is to retain them out of the official criminal
justice method. Ivashkevich designed the curriculum for workshops, which use art
and electronic media to promote engagement and discussion of every day issues faced by
the girls and younger females. Ivashkevich directs the method, and UofSC pupils from
various disciplines are educated to aid educate the courses.

oppression, sexism, fairness and discrimination against females.
Ivashkevich, who grew up in Belarus and moved to the United States for graduate school,

lives.
“It’s just pretty satisfying to see all those teens wander in extremely silent and closed in with
